Format definitions — odds & probabilities
Every format below describes the exact same thing — how likely an outcome is, and what it pays. They're just different ways of writing it.
Decimal 2.50
The total return per 1 unit staked, including your stake back. At 2.50, a 1-unit bet returns 2.50 (1.50 profit). Common in Europe and Australia and the easiest to compare. Decimal = 1 ÷ probability.
Fractional 3/2
Profit relative to stake — 3/2 means win 3 for every 2 risked. Traditional in the UK and Ireland. Add 1 (as a fraction) to get decimal: 3/2 → 2.50.
American +150 / −200
Built around a 100-unit base. A positive number is the profit on a 100 stake (+150 wins 150). A negative number is the stake needed to win 100 (−200 risks 200 to win 100). Standard in the US.
Implied probability 40%
The break-even win rate baked into a price — the chance the outcome must have just for the bet to be neutral. Probability = 1 ÷ decimal. If your own estimate beats this number, the bet is +EV.
Hong Kong 1.50
Profit per 1 unit, stake not included — exactly decimal minus 1. HK 1.50 is the same price as decimal 2.50.
Indonesian & Malay +1.50 / −0.67
Both scale to a 1-unit base like American does to 100. Indonesian ≥ 1 mirrors US plus-money; Malay ≤ 1 flips the sign so favourites read positive. Popular across Asian books.
